Our laundry services staff perform a vital role in preventing widespread contamination. To protect yourself, your co-workers, and your families, some BEST PRACTICES must be followed. (continue reading below)
Patients’ laundry and linens must be transported from rooms to the laundry area and cleaned according to strict procedures. (continue to instructions)

- Wear PPE (personal protective equipment): reusable rubber gloves are always necessary.
- Clean hands with soap and warm water before using, and after removing PPE.
- If there’s a risk of splashing, wear gowns or aprons and face protection.

- Place soiled linen into a clearly labeled, leak-proof container. Never transport soiled linen by hand.
- Clean and disinfect the designated container after each use.
- Don’t overfill reusable “linens” bag. Tie them securely and wash after each use. These bags can be laundered with the soiled linen they contained.

- Sort, package, transport, and store clean linens in a way that prevents risk of contamination by dust, debris, or by other soiled items.
- Transport clean linens on designated carts that are regularly (e.g., at least once daily) cleaned with a neutral detergent and warm water.

- Use hot water (70–80°C / 158–176°F) for 10 min using an approved laundry detergent.
- Dry linens completely in a commercial dryer.
- Disenfectant use depends on the extent of soiling

- Carefully roll up soiled linen (especially if soiled by organic material) to prevent contamination of the air, surfaces, yourself, and other cleaning staff.
- Do not shake it out.
- Soak in detergent solution and scrub to remove soil.

BEFORE WASHING LINENS SOILED WITH SOLID WASTE
- Don’t forget PPE. If there is any solid waste material, scrape it off carefully with a flat, firm object and put it in the designated toilet before putting linen in the appropriate container.
- Disinfect by one of these methods:
- Soak in boiling water
- Soak in disinfectant solution for up to 30min. and rinse with clean water to remove residue
- Soak in boiling water
- Allow to fully dry, ideally in the sun.
